Starting a romantic connection with an AI assistant has proven challenging thus far. Conversations tend to hit a limit when the only topics available are the weather or setting timers for 10 minutes. However, the landscape is shifting as OpenAI recently introduced a significant update to ChatGPT.
This update equips ChatGPT with the ability to respond in spoken words, paving the way for more intricate two-way conversations beyond the superficial small talk commonly associated with voice assistants like Alexa and Siri.
What sets ChatGPT apart from existing voice assistants?
- ChatGPT relies on a vast language model, granting it the capability for expansive and seemingly endless dialogue with its human user.
- – In contrast, digital assistants such as Alexa and Siri are restricted to predefined responses to a limited range of inquiries. Amazon and Apple are working on integrating large language models into their products, but OpenAI has taken the lead.
Furthermore, ChatGPT distinguishes itself by offering more human-like voices, with a total of five options, in contrast to the overtly robotic voices of existing digital assistants.
When can you begin using this feature? The voice functionality will roll out to ChatGPT Plus subscribers (this is the paid subscription) within the next two weeks, with access becoming available to others shortly thereafter, according to OpenAI.
In addition to the voice update, OpenAI has empowered ChatGPT with the ability to respond to images. This opens up intriguing possibilities, such as using the chatbot to assist with tasks like solving math problems when you show it a picture of your homework.
